about

One of the most powerful aspects of music is the capacity to instantly transport the listener into a completely different state of mind and emotion. Whether it’s the arc of a melody, the sonorous impact of a 100 piece orchestra, a driving rhythm, or a single, quiet voice, we respond to sound in a deeply visceral way. When you add the element of verbal communication through lyrics and ideas, you exponentially increase the potential for overall impact via the combination of raw sound along with the subtleties of linguistic meaning.

So the simple form of a popular song you heard as a child or young adult can have ramifications that inform your life decades later. I’m betting many of you just thought of at least one such song.

OK, radically switching gears now. For most people on earth, 2020 has been quite a rollercoaster ride, and it’s not over yet. So my purpose here is to offer, through the power of music, a moment to set aside the chaos, gift yourself with a brief respite into calm, perhaps connect with someone you love, allow the sonic cleansing linked here to wash over you - and just chill out for a bit.

I wrote this song in 1986, but I was on the road quite a bit and couldn't get it properly recorded back then. The recording I’ve linked to here was finally done in 2003, so I guess it’s about time to put it out there. As is often the case, I sang all the vocals and played all the instruments.

“Nothin' Gonna Stop This Love” is a sultry excursion into deep R&B, with enough intriguing harmonic complexity to satiate the connoisseur, while simultaneously serving up a lavishly satisfying feast of instrumental and vocal soulfulness.

With live performance still largely shut down, please feel free to support music that matters to you in any way that feels right to you. And please spread the word if you like what you hear. Thank you.
